This game is fun!
Greetings fellow Terrans. I hope everyone is having a good summer & staying cool. Been busy on this end but things are good; I have a few random but fun projects to share and some exciting stuff coming down the pike... But first up, I had the opportunity to try a new game, Star Wars: Armada. Now at the time of writing, this game appears to be in a state of hiatus by its publisher, Fantasy Flight Games, however, I have read that they are supporting organized play / events through 2023. Even if the game doesn't see any new releases, I'd still recommend you try it if you get the chance.- Tokens & cards track all relevant game-state values/statuses; this helps you not worry about remembering a bunch of stuff and just focus on the more fun aspects of the game
- It's all about maneuvering ships, which is fun & interactive with the proprietary movement gauge
- they capture the spirit of dogfighting with smaller ships, yet balance the brute strength of a star destroyer class ship by making them far harder to move around the board. I think the game mechanics are done really well and there's a surprising amount of depth & thought put into the base sizes, which in turn create interesting diagonals for determining ship facing, side arcs, etc.
- The pre-painted minis look good! The game is visually appealing which makes it all the more engaging.
- Low time investment with fairly quick gameplay. The scenarios I tried were fun and get you into the action quickly.
Obi-Wan had me in the mood to play in the Star Wars universe and the Armada game delivered! You immediately get transported to the command deck of a ship and start weighing the order & consequences of your decisions as you have to 'dial them in' turns in advance. Very cool mechanic.
I was pleasantly surprised by this game and I highly recommend anyone into Star Wars give it a try. May the force be with you!
