Malifaux 101

Monday, February 18, 2013

So I finally had a reason to bust out my Terraclips set last week and it was pretty fun putting a board together for the first time. I will say that 2 boxes of the clips are probably necessary unless you're prepared to get creative with the limitations of only one box, but you'll notice this board is not regulation size (36" x 36") and we definitely could have used more terrain in general. But this was just a learning/introduction game anyway, so no big deal. Ideally, I'd add the Buildings of Malifaux set to this one, which is the Streets of Malifaux. Anyway, it had been a long time since I actually played the game. Too long, in fact. I ended up forgetting the differences between combat actions and casting actions, and how to resolve each type of duel.

Later on, I found a great set of instructional youtube videos that cover all the questions that came up during the game and are really helpful in general if you're remotely interested in Malifaux. Ultimately, I need to get this crew painted up and playing more frequently so I don't forget the basics. Malifaux is a fun game and something I'd like to get better at.

In 40k news, I played in a small local tournament yesterday and took 4th overall! It was a lot of fun and one of my better showings at an actual event. I'm still learning the in's and out's of 6th edition but my list was pretty flexible, giving me multiple options for playing the mission against a variety of opponents. I'll get something written up this week detailing my list, highlighting each of my games along with some pictures from the event.
