Back in the Saddle

Sooo, it's been awhile! Here's just a little bit of what I've been up to and currently working on.

I'll start with the hobby-related stuff since that is probably what most people who still check this blog (all 3 of you haha) are here for.

Harlequins

Last month, I finally picked up the Harlequin codex that has been out for over a year now. When the news of the new models (and rules) first hit White Dwarf in January 2015, I was all over them. At the time I wasn't even sure they were getting a full blown codex, but I fully intended on expanding my small existing force of the space clowns. Even picked up a couple of the new kits, which sadly I'm just now getting around to building. Nonetheless, the time is now for the Harlequins to take up the helm and become my fourth full blown army! That's right, what was once an allied contingent is now growing to the point where they can theoretically stand on their own. I intend to do a detailed review of the codex like I have with my previous armies. Despite the Harlies being a much smaller and limited faction, these write ups do take significant time to do properly, but I promise it'll be worth it ;)

I've already got some content in the works, like sharing some thoughts on the first Starweaver I built (pictured above), but I'm really excited about this project. Already have a couple lists locked down too. While I'm more than a little intimidated by how I'm going to paint them, they are going to be super fun to play on the table and should go nicely with my Dark Eldar. Much more on this project to come!

Hobby Space

I've made a lot of progress on my hobby space and almost back to a fully functioning work bench. I also expanded my home table, which was re-purposed from stuff we found in the house when we first moved in -- the table was just over an inch short on width causing my FAT mat to slightly hang over the edges. I've got even more scrap wood I salvaged from another home renovation project and would like to add an elevated border around the board to catch dice from rolling off. When I get back to playing more games I'm sure I'll find the motivation to finish off the next phase of this project, along with my crazy backlog of terrain projects.

Music

the warm glow from the tubes in my badass Orange amp :)
I've mentioned it before, but my favorite pastime isn't warhammer or any tabletop game for that matter; it's music. It's the universal language. When work got super stressful last year I realized I needed more outlets to de-stress and restore balance to the work/life equation. Music has always been a significant part of my life and very few things have ever come as naturally to me as music. So, naturally, I sought to make it an even bigger and more regular part of my life. I started writing again and playing with a couple old bandmates and even found some new ones! I'm not quitting my day job or anything like that but I have started investing in some new gear and am excited to see where things go.

So that's a little bit of what I've been up to recently. Life is just as busy as ever but I've missed blogging and will try to carve out more time for updates, especially as my Harlequin force starts to come together. Cheers!
