Packing Up

Monday, March 3, 2014

It's moving time again, but this will hopefully be the last time for a very long time. We're less than 2 weeks away from closing on our first house! This is a very exciting but busy time. I'm at the point where I need to pack away my armies and hobby gear for the foreseeable future and put all my projects on hold. Before I do, I figured I would take a quick shot of each so I know exactly where to pick up after the new man-cave is set up. Here's what I've been working on.

I've been trying to finalize the details for my Raptors paint scheme. I really liked the updated Iron Hands scheme from the new Marine codex, particularly the white casing on the guns, so I thought I would paint one up for comparison against the all metal bolter.

It adds an extra step but I do like how it stands out. I might reserve this for veterans with special issue ammo since my current build uses 30 tactical marines and a 10 man sternguard squad, but we'll see if I can crank them out.

I've also been slowly adding paint to this Cronos. It's a fun model and it will make an appearance in a monstrous creature list I've been playing around with.

And speaking of monstrous creatures, there's this big guy, the Dark Avatar:

Can't wait to get some paint on this one. I will need to run Eldar as the primary to squeeze him in but it will be fun. I haven't seen anyone run an Avatar since the new Eldar codex but I'm willing to find out first hand if he's worth it.

While the new Avatar sculpt is better than the original, the main reason I bought the cauldron of blood kit was for the other bits and their contribution to my next conversion project -- the Dais of Destruction:

This one is still in the early stages but the platform and staircase fit well with the raider. I have a few more ideas to incorporate the additional dark lances and some decorations, but I need to figure out where to re-position the sail. And I still need to build a suitable Vect to go with this ride, but all in good time.

Till next time!

  1. Looking at your Dais, very nice conversion, I've been planning something similar but with a tantalus over a raider, how far down the back do the stairs go? as the back of a tantalus is about the same size as a raider.

    1. Thanks! I originally wanted to convert a tantalus as well, it's a fantastic model in its own right. The stairs are essentially resting on the back railing of the raider frame; the bottom stair sits slightly off the lower deck and to keep it level the top platform rests on the front part of the tail blade / fin. The bits work nicely with the raider; in the pictures they aren't even glued to the raider yet as I'm still working out the other features, but they stay in place pretty well just sitting on the railing and back fin. Hope that helps, let me know if you'd like to see more angles and definitely let me know how your conversion goes. Good luck!
